Adaptogenic Goldenmilk Recipe
An after school treat snack of golden milk makes for a calmed, satiated (but definitely turmeric-stained) child and mama. I mix up turmeric (both dried powder and a few squirts of our fresh turmeric extract), our ashwagandha extract, our astragalus extract, a little slippery elm powder, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, coconut oil, and raw milk and honey to make a rich, satisfying, and deeply nourishing beverage that feels like a meal and is packed with nutrients and herbal allies.
You can make up the powder in big batches and then just add a little to the wet ingredients (milk, honey, extracts, coconut oil) to cut down on prep time. It's really no more involved than mixing up some hot cocoa, but so tremendously beneficial on a systemic anti-inflammatory and digestive level. The combination of ashwagandha, turmeric, and ginger - synergistically with the other kitchen cupboard herbs - is a powerful fortifier of the nervous and digestive systems.
Golden Milk Powder Blend Recipe
1 cup turmeric powder
3 tbsp cinnamon
1 tbsp nutmeg
1 tbsp cloves ground
1 tbsp cardamom ground
3 tbsp astragalus powder
3 tbsp ashwagandha powder
1 tbsp licorice
2 tsp black pepper
Combine all dry ingredients, blend well, and store in a pint jar or other small container.
How To Make Golden Milk
1 1/2 tsp golden milk powder blend
1 cup milk or milk alternative
1 dropperful (20-30 drops) ashwagandha extract
1 dropperful turmeric extract
15 drops ginger extract
1 tbsp coconut oil
1-2 tsp honey
To make golden milk, combine the powder mix with milk or milk alternative, ashwagandha extract, turmeric extract, coconut oil, and honey (to taste). Heat in a small saucepan, stirring constantly so that milk does not stick. Sip slowly and relish.
